Shopping Overload

Is shopping overload even possible? I never thought so before today. Than I went to IKEA. Wow.

There is so much to see that it is completely overwhelming. I have never been there before today but I love to look at their website and catalog for ideas. I started taking pictures of all of the showrooms because there were so many ideas. With a family of five in a 1600 square foot house, organization is very important. Not that we've managed to get very organized...but we are trying to look at our house and see how organized we can get.

Here are some pictures of us shopping at Ikea--the kids, Nana, Poppa, and my Aunt Kim (whom we are in Portland, OR, visiting). There aren't very many of Aidan because our little man had a massive, full-blown, epic-scale temper tantrum right in the middle of Ikea. So he spent half of the trip sitting in the Land Yacht with Poppa. Which was not fun. The rest of us had a blast though.

A 'Rocky' Monday

Yesterday at church we had a visiting speaker. He talked about "Living a Life that Pleases God". It really spoke to me and confirmed what I felt God nudging me to do for a while now. I am the first person to admit that I am very FAR from perfect. Very FAR! But I have been making a conscious effort to live life to its fullest and greet each day with joy and a positive attitude. I was determined to continue that effort today.

Today was a Monday.

The morning started out rocky with Aidan throwing a full-blown temper tantrum. I made him go back to bed until he could greet the world with a smile on his face. So after forty minutes of pouting in his room, he decided he was ready to say, "Good Morning." Chloe did awesome in school this morning and was focused (for the most part). Aidan was in a great mood for the rest of the morning. Brenna was happy to be exploring and roaming throughout the house.

Chloe started her pottery class today for the first time with a new teacher. She was a bit nervous and I wanted to make sure she could handle the class so I decided to sit in the class with her. So I headed to Mom and Dad's to drop Brenna and Aidan off for a couple of hours. All was fine as we headed back into town.

Just a third of a mile down the highway, I watched in horror as a large black object was flying towards the car. I tried to swerve before it hit the car but I wasn't fast enough. The rock (or whatever it was, I am not exactly sure what it was), came crashing into our windshield with an explosion of glass. Praise God there was not a lot of traffic on the highway and I was able to safely pull off the road. My first fear was that Chloe was hurt. She wasn't! She was just shaky and scared like her mom. I have small paper-like cuts on the back of my hands from the glass flying and both of us ended up with tiny bits of glass in our hair. But no one was seriously hurt.

There was a gaping hole in the passenger side of our front windshield. The passenger side was cracked all over the place and there was a two-inch hole where the rock hit. Glass shards and splinters were all over the front seats and floor. All three car seats in the second row were covered with glass. I am so grateful that Brenna and Aidan were at my parent's house. Both kids would of been covered with broken glass and probably would of gotten seriously hurt and cut. Chloe was protected by the front passenger seat. The glass flew around her. The rock hit the windshield so hard that glass shot into the third row seat of the suburban.

Here are some pictures of the damage...

There was no other damage to the car (Thank You God!!). Our windshield will be brand new by tomorrow afternoon. The guy at the auto glass place could not believe the hole in the window. He said it was extremely rare to have something actually penetrate the glass. Since windshields are manufactured to just shatter, not break.

I am so grateful that God's hand was on us this afternoon. If the rock had hit eighteen inches to the left, we could of been in a serious accident. He protected us both in an amazing way. Like Chloe said as we sat on the side of the road right after we got hit, "God saved us Mom. He kept us safe." So even though my Monday was a bit "Rocky", I was still able to look at life with the right outlook and joy. Even more so this afternoon. God is so faithful, even when I am not. I am so grateful that He cares for the little and the big things in our daily lives.

Wordless Weekends

I am going to take a page out of my dear friend Lisa's blog and have a "Wordless Weekend" post. Check out her blog for some great ideas, inspiration and encouragement.

Gum & Hair, Enough Said

Gum and walking can be dangerous. Just ask Chloe. Her gum fell out of her mouth and you guessed it, right into her hair. Not a little piece either. Which brought out tears and embarrassment in our drama queen. So here is our evening:

#1: We tried ice in a bag that she held onto the gum stuck in her hair. I managed to get a large chunk out of her hair with that method. After a while she forgot to keep it on her hair so the gum went back to gooey status. Than she held the bag upside down effectively dousing herself with ice cold water. Which gave us a good laugh but was not really effective.

#2: After calling around, it was suggested by Poppa that we use Vaseline. So we lathered her up. After about twenty minutes I managed to work out another big chunk leaving just bits and pieces and some really nasty hair. The Vaseline would not get the little bits out of her hair.

#3: We went to Peanut Butter, which my dear Facebook buddy Molly suggested. I have heard it works to get gum out of hair but have never actually tried it. Chloe was not so willing to try the peanut butter. But after some coaxing and insisting I finally managed to get it into her hair. She was not impressed as you can tell by her picture. =)

I don't recommend peanut butter. At all. It just made a horrible mess and clumped her hair together worse than the gum did. Should of stuck with the Vaseline. We got most of it out but her hair will never be the same. Even after a good shampoo and conditioner session there is still some gum residue which may be there for a day or two.

Needless to say, Chloe won't be having gum again any time soon.

4AM & I Can't Sleep

It is 4AM and I am feeling miserable. Got to love it when the kids share their colds. =) So since I can't sleep I thought I would do some blogging. No better time than now. We have been busy as usual. The kids are still adjusting to Matt going back to work. If you could keep Aidan in your prayers we would appreciate it. The poor guy is just so confused and anxious right now.

For those of you who don't know, my parents are renewing their wedding vows on their 30 year anniversary. So for the past year or so we have been busy making wedding plans for them. Saturday my mom, SIL Kim, Mom's friend Kelly and I (and Brenna of course) went to David's Bridal to do some wedding dress shopping. We had so much fun! Mom tried on five different dresses before finding "the one". Since Dad reads this blog too I can't share anything about her dress. =) Sorry Dad.

We also looked at flower girl dresses for Brenna and Chloe. Which was not easy considering the size gap between them. We found gorgeous chiffon ivory colored dresses. They are so adorable. I am attaching a link to the dresses but the picture does not do them justice. They have an empire waist with beading across the front of the dress. Way too cute! We had such a hard time picking out dresses. There were so many beautiful ones but they were so "grown up" looking. Chloe may think she is "grown up" but she is still only six (almost seven) and still very much a little girl. These dresses were the perfect choice--girly with just the right touch of "grown up" for Chloe. They are going to wear flower wreaths and little ivory slippers.

My SIL Kim and I picked out our dresses while we were there too. Now the dress we picked does not look good on a hanger. We only grabbed it because it was in the color we wanted and in our sizes. I don't generally like the one shoulder look for dresses but this style and cut is incredibly flattering on most shapes. It looked great on us. Here is the link. You may have to change the dress to Horizon Blue if you want to see the color we got them in. Kim and I wanted to be comfortable on the day of the wedding so we weren't really excited about the prospect of high heels. Kim found an adorable pair of kitten heel sandals (with a flip flop toe). The straps are covered in rhinestones. Very fun and cute!

After three hours of dress shopping we went out to lunch and just had fun. It was a great afternoon. We got so much accomplished for the wedding. Now we just have to finish the invitations, make the favors, figure out food for the reception, make sure the guys have their suits, get flowers, and the list goes on. =)

All right I am going to see if I can catch up on some of my missing sleep before I have to teach today...
